  Piloting of Open School

The Government of Nepal, Ministry of Education  (MOE), National Center for Educational Development Center (NCED), Nepal has started the Open School Programme, for the first time in Nepal, since the FY 2064/065 (2007/08) . The programme is designed for grade Ten and was 1st piloted on Five schools, one from each region of Nepal. The schools were located at Sunsari (Eastern region), Rautahat (Mid-region), Kaski (Western region), Banke (mid-western region) and Kailali (Far western region). Each school had capacity of 30 (thirty) students and there were all together one hundred fifty students in the open school programme. The participant students appeared in the School Leaving Certificate exam of 2064 (2008), and around 34 percent of the student passed the SLC exam. The minimum qualification required for the admission in the open school is- there should be at least 2 years gap after completing the grade eight and should be more than 16 years of age.

Similarly, this year, the programme has been expanded to 22 districts covering at least one school from each zone of Nepal. There are all together around 1537 registered students  in 22 schools and are supposed to appear the SLC exam of 2065.

  SLC Support Programme

National Center for Educational Development, Distance Education/Open Learning Division, Sanothimi has started publishing the SLC support materials in the Gorkhapatra since Mangsir 2, 2064. There will be all together 18 series ( 6 series each from English, Science and Mathematics) and will be published on every Sunday.

Similarly, Radio programmes are being broadcast through Radio Nepal and 24 Audio Visual Programmes will be broadcast through Nepal Television from 1st week of Poush.

The content of the news paper material, radio and TV programmes are based on the curriculum and specification grid of class 10, as prepared by Curriculum Development Center (CDC). This programme is supposed to be very helpful for the SLC appearing students of 2065.
